【WS ⑪】GLAP1 “Mini Philippine Day” with Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Students and Embassy Staff
1/31/2015
For this workshop, Junten invited Ms.Kanami Namiki from Embassy of the Philippines and 4 students from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) and we had “Mini Philippine Day.” Ms.Namiki studied Filipino at TUFS and also got into Philippine dance. Since then, Ms.Namiki has involved with various Philippine dance activities and events.
The workshop began with Ms.Namiki’s presentation on the culture, mainly about dance in the Philippines. Junten students learned that there were several kinds of dances in the country, one kind is influenced by Spanish and Western culture, the other kind is local folk dance.
In the workshop, 4 TUFS students danced Polkabal that is originated in Quezon and is the combination of polka and waltz. They had a very pretty dress on with a cute flower on their hair and their dance was very wonderful. After that, Ms.Namiki and 4 students showed the class how to dance Polkabal. The students learned and mastered it in a very short time, and they were enjoying dancing Polkabal.
Dancing made the students hungry! Now it is time to eat delicious Filipino food, that Junten prepared for the workshop. Students enjoyed abodo (meat marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, and garlic) and pansit (stir-fried rice noodle). Ms. Olivia Akatsu who has helped a SGH workshop last year donated Filipino snacks for the workshop.
