Three SGH Delegates Returned from The Preparatory Trip to the Philippines

Three SGH delegates went to the Philippines from December 18 to 23rd. The students visited Manila, Dagupan in the Province of Pangasina in Luzon and Sual City. At the JICA office in Manila they visited, students met the officers and JICA volunteers and learned about the JICA’s activities in great detail.
In Dagupan, the Delegates visited a private school “La Salette School.” After the school’s Christmas party, students sat down together and discussed about positive and negatives aspects of both countries and gained understanding about each other.
After visiting a slum community called Karicaan, the delegates interviewed the residents there. (photos above).
The delegates walked around and explored the city of Sual and interviewed local people in villages(photos above). At CFF’s home (http://www.cffjapan.org/), the delegates cooked white chicken stew, danced and played games with the local children to get to know each other.
Three students also went to garbage collection sites, Death March monument in Bataan, Intramuros in Manila and the area where Smoky Mountain used to be. In 6 days, The students met a lot of people in the Philippines and were impressed with the warm hospitality that the local people offered to them.
The feedbacks from the students:
“I was able to think about not only the Philippines, but also about myself”, “I came to realize how fortunate I am when seeing people in the Philippines live”, “I kept asking “why” or “why not?”, then I realized that I am using the Japanese standards but that is not the only standard. I thought I should learn the history of the Philippines really well.”
