【WS④】GLAP1 ”Food of Different Countires: Learn From Photos”

The afternoon of the day that a typhoon hit Tokyo, the 4th SGH workshop was held as scheduled for the Glap 1 students. The typhoon stayed only in the morning, so the typhoon cleared in the afternoon. Weather warning on transportation was also cleared and all the students were able to attend the workshop. The 4th Workshop was provided by NPO DEAR (Development Education Association & Resource Center http://www.dear.or.jp/index.html), the organization that has helped the SGH program at Junten.
The lecturers were Ms.Ai Nishi and Ms.Mariko Isihda and they gave a workshop entitled “Learn from pictures! Family Meals of the World”. See the DEAR’s facebook on more details. https://www.facebook.com/ngoDEAR/posts/480776452058367
The workshop started with a warm-up exercise; students played a bingo game “My Meals”, then students moved on to discuss their of the pictures that have families from different counties with their food plan for one week in them. Students jotted down their thoughts and opinions about the photos. The photos helped students to imagine their lifestyles and cultures.
Finally students played a quiz about obesity, hunger, wasted-food and self-sufficiency of the world.
It seemed that the quiz was challenging for them, as the reality is far from what they have imagined. Students learned that it is important to understand the reality and the context in which the families are placed.
We are looking forward to the next SGH workshop that is scheduled to be held in September.
Mr.Honma from the 21 Kai, that researches and analyzes the education of the 21st century came to write about the workshop.
