1.Class Content
“Gulliver’s Travels” tells not just the story of Gulliver and his travels, but also about the times that the author Jonathon Swift lived in. In Professor Paul Snowden’s workshop, we talked about not only the countries Gulliver traveled to, but also the reasons Swift wrote about those places in that way, and the points about society that Swift was trying to make through his satire. We focused on Gulliver’s third journey to Japan and thought about the world situation during Swift’s life and how much Swift knew about Japan at the time. The students looked at maps provided in the books and learned a little about map making at the time. They also took a glimpse at different versions of “Gulliver’s Travels” translated into Japanese at various times in history and thought a bit about how and why they were translated in that way.
2.Student Feedback :

1. Class Content
The class explored International relationship from the view of Fast Fashion, which is a big interest for teenagers. Studenst were required to research about the production of Fast Fashion. The production is mostly done in Asia, because it is cheaper and close to Japan. The class focused on Bangladesh to learn how the clothes are made and what kind of resources and people are working at factories. There are some untold stories behind the cheap products:the pressure from the clothing companies to “make clothes cheaply and fast”. On the other hand, yearly 3 billion clothes produced as a result of hard labour at inhumane factories in Japan are burned using vast amount of energy. The process produces CO2 that harms the environment. In the class, students spent time thinking about three questions.
① What can we do to take action now?
② What can we do with your friends and teachers?
③ What are things we need to do in the future?
Mr.Mashima took time answering the questions. Each of the students in the class learned that when buying clothes, they should think of externality of the consumption.
2.Student Feedback
〇 I learned how to buy and consume clothes that are produced at factories that treat the workers unfairly. I thought we should learn about this kind of things since young. 。
〇 Today I learned something new about our clothes. There are a lot of processes to produce one clothes. When I buy clothes, I thought I should put a lot of thoughts, such as if I really need to it or not.

I thought we could obtain the Global Veiwpoint by exploring what is going on in the world. There is fake-news or noise so it is important to stay focused and not to be confused by it. We are information senders and also receivers. I thought that we should understand what is required for us. Media is a way to deliver information. It is important that we remain analytical and try not to obtain information as it is.
