SGH 2nd Year Students to Give Workshop on World Food Issues

On April 25th, Ms.Aoki and Ms.Okada, two SGH Core members, gave a workshop on food issues. Below is the workshop

“We gave a workshop on the food issues, which is the part of Hunger Free World’s (HFW) project.  The HFW is an NGO that works to eliminate hunger from the world. Last year, I attended the HFW’s workshop so today I worked as a facilitator for the Junten workshop.

At the beginning, we asked everyone to write the food they remember well and we talked about who and where they ate the food. Then the class watched a video on people in the world talking about their memories of food. Then they exchanged their thoughts and opinions. By learning each other’s experience, they realized that eating is not only an action to satisfy appetite, but it also has enhance communications with people who eat food with.

The we talked about the difference between “hunger” and “famine”, then explore the root causes of them.

I was not sure if I could do a good job as a main facilitator, but I was able to relax and enjoy the experience.  Everyone participated in active discussion and I believe the workshop gave an unique opportunity for them to think about food. I would like more people to think about food so I hope to have a similar workshop again.”
