Junten Junior High School / Senior High School

St.Micheals University High School (SMUS) in British Columbia in Canada and Junten Senior High School collaborate on the SGH field trip and students from both schools visit the Philippines to work together on the SGH project. Today, Ms.Dawn Wilson visited came to Junten Senior High School. Her last visit to Junten was five years ago. 

Over 30 students from Junten study English at the SMUS every summer. A coordinator Ms.Aya Robinson from the SMUS joined Junten SGH field trip to the Philippines two years ago and this year Ms.Robinson and a student Lily joined the field trip. 

Ms.Wilson came to Junten: 1) to discuss next year’s study abroad trip to Canada and 2) to review this year’s trip. 

Lily is a study abroad student who came from China. While she was on the field trip tour in the Philippines, she must have experienced various cultural challenges between China, Japan and the Philippines. Ms.wilson had lunch with three Junten students to get their thoughts on working with a student from different country and culture. Three students spend closely with Lily in the same group, but they all enjoyed the experience and didn’t not feel that cultural difference interfered their friendship. 

Ms.Wilson asked the students about their learning experience. Three Junten students responded in English.

At the end of the meeting, three Junten students and Ms.Wilson agreed to create a promotional video to recruit the SMUS students who participate in the SGH field trip to the Philippines. 

For this visit, Ms.Wilson came with Ms.Leigh Sunderland from Camosun College, Junten and Ms.Sunderland talked about a possibility of Junten students visiting Camosun College when they visited Canada next year.
