SGH 3rd Philippines Fieldwork 2017 (2)
On September 28th, the group is scheduled to visit local schools. In the morning they went to Mangaldang high school and joined the Grade10’s(15 years old)Japanese class where Junten students interviewed and handed out a questionnaire. Junior students from different class came to join class, as they were curious about what is going on. Students from St.Michaels also joined here so the class became very exciting by this point.
The group moved to La Salette School in the afternoon. Junten students and students at La Salette School had discussions about various topics. Today, students today will stay with local families. Students seemed to be a little nervous but they left the school with the host families.
On September 29th, the group went to Lingayen and Santo Nino Hospital. Then the group went to Sual where they interviewed and gave a questionnaire to people studying at a sewing association and at a welding training school. Women at the sewing training learn how to use a sewing machine, making bags or crafts that are later sold at local supermarkets. People a the welding training school learn special skills to find a job that may be located in the Philippines or other countries.
After a sewing school and welding school visit, students went to CFF.
In the morning of September 30th, students were working to prepare for the activities that are scheduled to do in the afternoon at the CFF children’s home. Local high school students joined the activities. Children at CFF don’t understand English so the local high school worked to interprete.
In the afternoon, the group and the CFF students enjoyed the activities, jump-rope and Ninja dance, students prepared were jump-rope and Ninja dance. After the activities, Junten students showed the CFF children how to wash hands, using an original video they made in Tagalog. This hygiene education has been provided to the CFF students every time Junten SGH group visits and this is the third time. Some of the CFF students remembered about what they learned last year. This year’s Junten SGH brought a stamp to check if hands are washed well. Children at CFF had the stamp on before they washed hand, and after they finished, they could check if the stamp is washed off or not.
Junten Students and CFF children had dinner together. Children at CFF have some family issues but they are growing well by the staff’s support. Everyone was having a good time together.
