On Saturday, May 27th, the 1st Year Senior High School students attended a workshop about diversity and different cultural values hosted by Dr.Yuichi Kondo from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). Two teaching assistants came to help the class. This workshop was designed to encourage active discussion and was provided on two different days (one on May 27th and one on June 10th).

The workshop was a great opportunity for the students to explore diversity and different values in other countries. Students worked to identify their ideas of “good” and “bad” using a fictional story. First, the class was divided into small groups to discuss their ideas. Then, a representative from each group presented their group’s opinion on the topic. Some of them seemed to be very nervous about speaking in public, but they clearly explained their group’s conclusion.

It was a great opportunity for the students to practice accepting differences and to learn what it means to live in a global community where cultural diversity and different values coexist.
