Filipino Language Lesson Has Started

To prepare for the SGH fieldwork in the Philippines, the students who will be going to the field trip started taking short Filipino lessons. The instructor is Ms.Magno who is from Davao City in the Philippines, and SGH staff, Ms.Atarashi and Ms.Cavalier also join the class. The class is casual, and is held during a lunch break.

In the first lesson, students learned greetings, such as “magandang tanghali (good afternoon)”, or “kumusta ka? (how are you?)” and they also learned how to introduce themselves.

Ms.Magno will teach pronunciations and useful expressions, then students will repeat the sentences and use them with classmates. The class will help students to get used to use Filipino in the field work.

The lesson is only 20 minute long, but we hope that students enjoy the lesson and get use to use Filipino.

In the Philippines, English is also used but it is very important to know the local native language in order to truly understand the local people an culture.
