SGH Philippines Fieldwork and Research Guidance (4)

On Monday, September 5th, Mr. Ishii from CFF came to Junten for the 4th SGH Field Work and Research Guidance workshop. This time, students learned risk management to ensure their safety while they are traveling abroad. They also talked about their research projects, their progress, and received advice from Mr. Ishii.

Students discussed what they know about risks and what they learned from today’s workshop in groups. Mr. Ishii lectured about how to avoid possible risks. For example, he told students to watch out for heat stroke or food poisoning, and explained that students must make sure to keep their valuables secure and in sight. He even demonstrated secure ways to hold bags or purses. By being responsible for yourself, you can also secure the safety of people around you and avoid any foreseeable risks and danger. Mr. Ishii emphasized how important it is to be responsible for yourself.

Next, students shared their research projects and updated their research projects with new information. Each student or group has his/her own research interests, so they will use the field trip as a great opportunity to interview locals and conduct field research. Research themes include: international corporation, how local people perceive sexuality, the spread of oral hygiene, education in the Philippines and Japan, fair trade, superfood produced in the Philippines, and perceptions of peace.)

Students have done prior research on their subjects, and they shared their progress in the workshop. Students freely gave their opinions and ideas based on the information provided by Mr. Ishii, Junten teachers, and their classmates. Through the conversations and discussions, they seemed to be able to see their research topics from different points of view.

Students will continue exploring their research topics until they depart to the Philippines in a few weeks.
