Mr.Futaki from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan came to talk to 1st and 2nd Grade Senior High School

Tuesday July 14th, Mr.Takashi Futaki from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) came to Junten Senior High School to give a special lecture about his work and experience as a foreign diploma. Junten applied for the MOFA high school lecture and we fortunately won this opportunity. Mr.Futaki’s lecture was entitled “Be Patient, Be Hopeful.”

Quoting various lines and passages from literature or poems, Mr.Futaki taught Junten students what is needed for a global person, what to do to flourish in the global community and what working really means to humans.

Mr.Futaki told the students that during the high school time,  it is important to widen ones’ views and develop unique and specialized knowledge and good perception of work.  He also suggested that it is important to have a good balance of both academics and sports.  What is expected for a foreign diploma is patience, persistence and modesty, which are prominent characters of Japanese people.  Also it is necessary to have a good understanding of others and other countries, having great interests in global issues, possessing good communication skills, which are different from good language skills.  Junten students obtained valuable information and knowledge from Mr.Futaki.

Showing pictures of people and places he has met and visited through his work, Mr.Futaki talked about what and how people think in different countries and cultures.  Such information is valuable for Junten’s SGH project and students learned about what is needed to be global person in a great deal.

Mr.Futaki repeatedly emphasized that “patience” is virtue and he said, “young people could be benefited from being patient so try to do things that require small patience. It is very rewarding to achieve something after going through a series of small patience.”   Junten students gained knowledge about being a global person in the lecture and they also learned “how to live life.”  Students will use the knowledge shared by Mr.Futaki in their daily high school lives and Junten teachers are hoping that they will flourish in the global community in the near future.
