Wheels in Motion for SGH at Junten
Right on the heels of their April entrance ceremony, students in Junten’s first-year high school E-Class have already begun earning their global citizenship.
With their homeroom teachers Mr. Kaneko and Mr. Repsher, the students discussed the idea of human history as an expansion of levels of citizenship consciousness – a view of history in which people imagine themselves as members of larger and larger groups, from families and communities to nations and, most recently, the world. In addition, E-class students brainstormed a list of global issues that ranged from economic inequality to war to climate change. They even posed the question, “What is global culture?” Football, or perhaps the Olympics? As they settle into their new identities as Junten High School students, E-Class students are exploring their global identities, too.
