Hello my name is Reana and I come from Vancouver Canada.
I have been in Japan between June and July. I have been enjoying my stay in Tokyo Asakusa.
When I first came to Junten as an International student, I was scared that no one would like me because I came from a different country and looked nothing like an average Japanese student. But when I walked through those doors I had a very warm welcome from the administrators and once I got to my classroom I felt like I fit right in. Once I got to my seat all the girls around me started asking me so many questions about where I lived and things that were popular amongst teens in Canada. They made me feel like I knew them forever, they taught me popular Japanese words and showed me the newest popular things on Japanese tiktok. I do speak Japanese but to an extent, if I had a hard time trying to explain a harder word they didn’t rush me and let me take my time. And not just the girls but the boys too, I was able to become friends with the majority of them. I would share snacks and teach them English. It was very fun.I was able to join some clubs during my stay. I joined the Baton club, International research club and C3 club.(注) All these clubs were so inclusive and very fun, the baton club taught me so much like technique and cool tricks. The international research club was awesome as I got to make friends with all grades and finally the C3 club was the best for international students. They would listen to your concerns and opinions and try to make your school life easier.Something I like about Japan is how they have super accessible public transport. Since I live a little further away it takes me about 40 minutes to get to school, but I love it. It is such a beautiful morning walk and the weather is perfect as in Canada we have colder weather.Something I like about Junten is the diversity in students and teachers. During my stay I made friends with exchange students from all over the world, something I wouldn’t expect to happen. While Junten does have japanese teachers they also have english teachers from all over the world, these teachers were some of the best of all time and I will cherish that.Overall I had the best experience of a lifetime being able to make memories and cherish them for life, while also having a fun time at school. If I ever had the chance to go back and do this again I 100% would.
Thank you Junten and thank you
